The guides for families and friends have been updated to provide instruction on how to support their friend or family member in completing the Where I’ve Been Timeline tracker when they are with them. These updates have been sent to families in an email this week. This includes:

The Visiting Guide for Locations was also updated to include further instruction on how to complete the Visits in the Community (included in the guide) document and how to support families and people who use our services in completing the Where I’ve Been Timeline tracker.

Please do not hesitate to continue to ask your questions or provide feedback on forms, protocols, checklists, etc. It has been your feedback and diligence that helps to make things better every day. Visitor guidelines have changed significantly over the past weeks.  We are seeking your feedback on a Draft COVID-19 Visit Checklist that we hope to release next week on the ODB. This updated form will help us continue to track visits at locations, designated visitors, and essential overnight visits. Will this work for you? Let us know at covid-19@christian-horizons.org

Thank you for your continued dedication!

  • The COVID-19 Weekly Preparedness Checklist was updated for the week of September 11th to September 17th.
  • The COVID-19 Screening Protocol was updated to note that Essential Visitors are no longer required to use a surgical/procedural mask and can instead wear a non-surgical mask while completing their visit.

A week ago, the Ministry of Community, Children, and Social Services (MCCSS) released Visitor’s Guidelines 2.0: Re-Opening of Congregate Living Settings, which went into effect on September 9th in Ontario. This document combines previous guidelines and provides updated direction on Essential, Non-Essential and Designated Visitors. These updates affected several resources and practices:

An update from the Resource Team:

Since COVID-19 began, we have all been called upon to be flexible, responsive, and resilient. We have learned new skills to work with excellence amidst uncertainty and confusion. This has not been easy. Just as we think we know how to respond to one new aspect of our work, new Ministry or Public Health guidelines are released and things change again. Thank you for bearing with us as we navigate these new realities. We know you have questions – we do too. We continue to seek clarity with the Ministry and we will continue to advocate for you and for the wellness, safety, and belonging of people who use our services.

As we do so, please do not hesitate to continue to ask your questions or provide feedback on forms, protocols, checklists, etc.

Together with you,

The COVID-19 Resource Team

  • The COVID-19 Weekly Preparedness Checklist was updated for the week of September 4th to September 10th.
    • COVID-19 Weekly Preparedness Checklist
      • The Hand Sanitizer Recall List (on the U:\\ drive) was updated (Sept. 2, 2020), please confirm the removal of recalled sanitizers from all locations

On August 28, 2020, the Ontario Ministry of Community, Children, and Social Services (MCCSS) released Re-Opening of Congregate Living Settings: Short-Stay Absences and Outings and Essential Overnight Absences. These updates impacted several of our current documents and practices:

  • Our COVID-19 Screening Protocol now includes active screening for people who use Christian Horizons’ services returning home. Note that the “travel” screening question has also been updated based on the travel parameters document.
  • The Visiting Guide for Locations and the Visiting Guide for Families and Friends (also on our christian-horizons.org/coronavirus page) have been updated to include information on Essential Overnight Visits in Ontario.
  • Increased activity in public spaces and with family and friends makes contact tracing all the more important. Based on some of the work happening in communities, we have created the “Where I’ve Been” Timeline tool to help people to remember where they’ve been and who they were with in case of potential exposure risks. We welcome your feedback on this.

EMPLOYEES TAB

There has been some confusion around recent updates to travel guidelines, including what qualifies as “inter-city” travel. To increase clarity, only people who travel by air are now required to self-isolate, or those who travel outside of Canada, unless otherwise indicated by provincial guidelines.

We rely on Christian Horizons employees to use discretion as we all work to minimize risk. This includes limiting any non-essential travel, following public health guidance such as masking, hand hygiene, and physical distancing while in public spaces, and not spending extended periods of time in closed spaces (such as buses, trains, etc.) with others. At this time, not all provinces prohibit interprovincial travel, but all continue to recommend against it.

  • On Tuesday, September 1st, Janet Noel-Annable sent a letter to families with information on the MCCSS changes in Ontario. You can download the letter here. A community package for people using Christian Horizons’ services and their family and friends was created to support re-engaging back with communities. It includes:
    • Going Out Safely – a resource created by Christian Horizons outlining the various government guidelines and how Christian Horizons provides support to follow them.
    • Safety in You Community Social Story – a visual tool to support understanding of how to be safe when going out into the community.
    • Going Out? Do it Safelyguide to going out in the community from the Government of Canada to use as a reference to help people assess risks as they access their community while following current government restrictions (also available in french).
  • Educate and Equip resources are also available at christian-horizons.org/coronavirus to share with others.
